4- Advertising Analysis
Monthly Box Companies:
For our advertising analysis I decided I wanted to take a slightly different approach. These days you can have a box with a variety of products sent to your door step every month with varying prices. The advertising for these products are constantly growing as their ads are integrated throughout a variety of social media platforms. Most of these boxes are catered towards the female gender however, there are boxes made for males as well. The different options are limitless you want a box with makeup, beer, shaving products, etc. it's somewhere out there.
The leader and the head honcho of this industry is the FabFitFun Box. This company was founded in 2010 by Micheal Broukhim, Katie Ann Rosen Kitchens, and Daniel Broukhim. In my opinion I don't quite understand the hype of this box as I feel that $49.99 a month for a box with random things you may not even use/like is a little much. They do claim that the 8 to 10 products in your monthly box add up to $200 worth of products. Which is one of their main advertising techniques trying to convince you that you are getting a huge deal when signing up to their monthly deliveries. I first heard about this company through their Instagram ads which once I saw one a saw a hundred more. This included ads constantly showing up on my Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat as well. Another advertising tactic that had brought a large amount of success to the company is celebrities recommending/hyping up these boxes. Celebrities like Maddie & Tae, Tori Spelling, Gina Rodriguez, Khloe Kardashian, Amber Rose, etc. The newest addition to their advertising strategy is knocking down their price by $10 for new subscribers and now allowing customers to customize their boxes by picking from a variety of products. Their products also vary with the season they have a fall box, winter box, and summer box all featuring new products.
Like I mentioned above this specific market is mainly catered to the female demographic but the most successful company in this business is catered to men. Dollar Shave Club was created in 2011 by Micheal Dublin. This company specializes in sending customers razors and other personal grooming products wit monthly razor blades sent every month. They don't have a fixed price like the FabFitFun box instead prices are based off of the products you select to be shipped to your house. When I looked up the best advertising companies on the market Dollar Shave Club was listed as number four, they owe all their success to one viral video. (Video Link) Which started their well known slogan "Our Blades are F****** Great". That video reached 5 million views within the first 90 days of being posted to YouTube. Most of their advertising has some sort of story line or humor behind it drawing attention of potential customers. Obviously one of their biggest advertising points is their low prices compared to other shave brands as we all know can be a little pricey. Their content is funny as well which drawls in new costumers just by giving them a good laugh. Adverting for these two companies and others like them have started a whole new craze delivered right to your doorstep. Both companies take different approaches to their advertising but have seen crazy success. While FabFitFun depends on their celebrity endorsements and full size products for a lower price. Dollar Shave Club mainly rely on their low prices and humorous advertisements.
