1- Personal Video Habits
Personal Video Habits
I'm sure it doesn't come as a surprise that me a 21 year old college student is constantly streaming video. It also probably isn't shocking that I don't even have cable television at my apartment because everything I watch is through a streaming service or websites. Of course a large majority of my streaming is through Netflix which in this day and age if you don't have Netflix what are you doing with your life? I watch a mix of television shows and movies through my streaming services. Lately I've watched a lot of Netflix due to them coming out with new Netflix original series and shows. The latest series I finished was Netflix's Cheer (Trailer). Cheer follows the season of Navarro College's competitive cheer team and their road to a national title. As an athlete I really enjoyed this series and finished the whole season in less than two days...I'm not ashamed of that either. You get to see the athletes hard work and long practices to work towards their goal. However, you also got a glimpse into these athletes personal life and their past which for most came from troubling/hard home lives. From one athletes own brothers abusing him at home for being "fruity" to a younger athlete who struggled with drug and alcohol usage. To watch people from hard pasts work so hard and succeed at a high competition level was so inspirational. But the best thing about Netflix's Cheer? One name Jerry. A young man who lost his mother to cancer at a young age and moved in with a fellow athletes family has the biggest heart and truly is the definition of a team player. He's gained a large social media following since the shows debut and celebrity athletes are even talking about him! JJ Watt tweeted in all caps "JERRY HARRIS IS THE HEART AND SOUL OF NAVARRO COLLEGE CHEERLEADING. IF HE DOESN'T MAKE THE MAT, I WILL RIOT." Overall I loved the show and binge watched it in two days.
Along with that I started watching a competition game show on Netflix called The Circle (Trailer). The show has multiple contestants that live in the same apartment building but have no face to face contact. They also aren't allowed to have any connections to the outside world and their only way of communicating is through a social media platform called The Circle. The platform only consists of the players in the game and the name of the game is to become the group favorite to become an influencer. Influencers get to discuss who will be blocked from the circle and the last player standing wins $100,000. The kicker though is you don't have to be truthful you can chose to be someone else for example, one player decided to play as his girlfriend and use her pictures for his profile. The show has multiple twists and games throughout the season. The next season of the Circle will be based in the UK due to the success of the US version.
Netflix is just one of the many streaming services I subscribe to I also watch on Disney+, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Disney+ also gets a lot of my time due to them having my favorite childhood shows ready to watch. Growing up I was the biggest Kim Possible fan ever. I had Kim possible clothes, backpack, lunchbox, pencil pouch, etc. So having access to every episode of the show really made the little kid inside me freak out! Along with all the older Disney movies and other shows from my childhood. Disney+ also has new original series and one of them has completely stolen my heart. This new series is called Pick of the Litter which follows the training and selection of seeing eye dogs for the blind. Which is so awesome that they are covering a company that really is doing good in the world. Now the reason I think I love it so much is that not to be dramatic but I would die for a puppy. Getting to watch them from birth start training to help someone who will depend on them daily is so cool! I highly recommend the show for animal lovers!I also watch a lot of different subscribers on Youtube. However my Tuesdays and Fridays are reserved for basketball. My younger brother is a senior in high school and my high school live streams their games through Youtube. It's pretty cool because they have announcers and a pregame show almost like a mini ESPN. He plays twice a week and since I'm here in Magnolia I sadly don't get to watch him play his senior year. So having access to something like this where I can still support him from here is awesome! Along with that I spend a lot of time on FaceTime due to my boyfriend living two hours away and softball often keeping me busy. I usually FaceTime for about 2-3 hours every night.
The only time and I really mean the only time I use cable is on Monday nights. My roommates and I all religiously watch ABC's The Bachelor every Monday night. The funny part is I unplug and replug our cable in specifically for this show. Another reason I might use my cable is in the instance of severe weather. Other than that my personal video habits are reliant on streaming services. None of my roommates watch cable either unless it is for this instance. I do tend to watch more cable when I'm at my Mom's house because she watches a lot of cable shows because she doesn't really know how to work things like Netflix that well. These are just a few of the things I watch these days and plenty more that I haven't listed here!
